The Heart of our Homestead

"The Heart of Our Homestead" reflects our journey of faith, family, and sustainable living. Join us as we cultivate a home where simplicity, love, and purpose guide every step.

Centered in Jesus...

Abbey and Bradley

Our homestead is deeply inspired by the principles of Joel Salatin—farming with integrity, sustainability, and respect for the land. At the center of it all is our faith in Jesus, which guides every step we take in building a home that honors Him. Our mission is to create a space where Jesus is not just the center of our hearts, but of everything we do, from the way we grow our food to the way we love and serve one another. As we nurture our land, we hope it reflects the peace, purpose, and joy that come from a life lived for His glory.

My husband, Bradley, and I met while serving together in the youth ministry organization, YoungLife (#younglifefindawife!). Our bond over faith, community, and shared passions for a simpler life led us to each other in 2019, and we were married the next summer! I’ve always believed that one of my greatest callings in life was to be a mother. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a deep desire to nurture, love, and raise children, and I imagined that one day, we would start our family. In 2021, we made the decision to take that step and began our journey of trying to conceive. What we quickly learned, however, was that God’s plans for us were different than what we had envisioned. Instead of a straightforward path to motherhood, we were met with the challenging reality of infertility.

Navigating the Road of Infertility...

Bradley and Abbey

Through our journey, we’ve learned to trust in God’s timing and sovereignty, and we’ve come to believe that the way we nourish our bodies—through whole, nutrient-dense foods and living in alignment with the way God created us—can be a part of God’s healing and plan for us. This new way of life has led us to embrace a slower, more intentional homesteading lifestyle, focusing on growing our own food, raising animals, and becoming more self-sufficient in all areas of our life.

The Heart of our Homestead...

Our wedding Bible verse, Hosea 2:19-20, serves as the foundation of our life together, reminding us of God's faithfulness and love. It says:
“I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord.” This verse is a constant reminder to us that everything we do here—every seed planted, every meal shared, and every step taken—is to be done in His love and faithfulness.

A Shared Journey in Faith and Love...

Bradley and Abbey

At first, it was hard to understand why this was happening, especially when motherhood felt like such a clear part of my purpose. But we began to realize that God was using this season to shape us in ways we never expected. Our infertility has been a difficult, emotional road filled with both heartache and hope, but it has also drawn us closer to Him, helping us deepen our faith and trust in His timing. Each day, as we wait and continue to walk this path, we’re learning more about His character and how He works all things for His good.

Living with Purpose and Healing...

Bradley and Abbey

Here on our homestead, you’ll find everything from our beloved sourdough starter to our chickens and sheep that graze the pasture. We also have our two dogs, Honeybee and Winnie, who bring so much joy to our lives. Raising animals and growing our own food isn’t just about feeding ourselves; it’s about embracing a lifestyle of health, healing, and connection to God’s creation. And when I’m not caring for our animals or baking up a fresh batch of sourdough, you can usually find me in the kitchen perfecting my morning coffee brew or reimagining a corner of our home to make it just a little more cozy and inviting.
